Reversing Cavities and Remineralizing Toothpaste

Cavities seem to be a common issue with GAPS-people. It isn’t surprising, considering many are nutrient deficient and not absorbing nutrients properly. Both of these things can lead to cavities forming and they did with my son, Raleigh.

When we began the GAPS diet in 2017 he was 4 years old and had a couple of small cavities forming in his mouth. Thankfully they were in baby teeth and I had a dentist who was willing to take a conservative approach and allow me to try and reverse the cavities naturally.

The first thing I did was make a remineralizing toothpaste. I used this recipe from the wellness mama. I added this essential oil blend to the toothpaste. If you, or the child, is old enough to oil pull I would recommend adding that into the regime as well.

The second thing I did was supplement him with cod liver oil and emu oil. The fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) are vastly important for dental health. Weston A Price found this out back in the early 1900s when he was doing his research on why Americans were having such dental decay and crooked teeth.

Working on gut health, consuming saturated animal fats and properly preparing grains are huge in the remineralizing process for teeth and for keeping cavities from forming. Finding a dentist who will take a conservative approach is also a big deal. Seek out a biological dentist or one that will support you if the need to reverse cavities comes along.

Since making my own remineralizing toothpaste, we have tried a few brands that are doing a really good job of making nontoxic toothpaste.

Some of my favorite toothpaste options:

Orawellness – I have used a variety of their products over the years and keep their healthy mouth blend in the house. The oils help gums heal from scratches or canker sores.

Zebra– Currently this is my favorite brand. I think the mint flavor is better than the coconut but Raleigh prefers the coconut.

Pure O3 – I love the oil pulling solution and gum support gel. The gel is easily applied to floss to get between the teeth.

Risewell – I do like this brand and we have used it in the past. New info has come out about nano hydroxyapatite of late so I would say do your do-diligence on this.

Wellness Mama’s brand – I have not personally used this but I have heard people who love it.

With everything we did to change Raleigh’s diet through GAPS, remineralizing toothpaste and supplementation, we were able to reverse those cavities. They did heal up and go away.

Have you successfully reversed cavities? I’d love to hear in the comments below.
