GAPS Guidance: More on Skin Issues

Advertisements

Skin issues are so fun, are they not? I’m being facetious. I was recently on a learning call with Dr Natasha and she was asked about how to deal with specific skin issues.

Here is what I learned:

Iodine is great to use on cuts, scrapes and wounds. This is the one I recommend.

Kefir should be used on any skin rash or fungal infections. It heals everything. Kefir is a balanced microbial community. Fungal rashes on the skin is just the “tip” of the iceberg. Whatever is showing on the skin is growing deep throughout the entire body. Kefir should be consumed internally as well as topically if possible. Kefir is full of beneficial bacteria and yeast and the beneficial yeasts are what go to bat against fungal issues. The GAPS protocol should be used to re-balance the microbiome as well.

Urine is great on burns and will heal a burn without leaving a scar.

There was a follow up question about drinking urine, or urine therapy, to which Dr Natasha said she did not have enough personal or other experience with to be able to speak to it. I mention that here because I know urine therapy has found a little bit of a following lately.

Rosacea and Skin Sensitivity: The face is the mirror of the bowel and our toxins come out of our skin. It is good to make a daily face mask using fresh, organic berries. Apply the mashed berries to the face for 30-40 minutes and then wash them off. Apply kefir to the face to repopulate beneficial bacteria on the skin.

Sometimes these individuals have mites that live in sebaceous glands of people with acne and rosacea. Ivermectin cream can be helpful as well.

If you are dealing with skin issues, eczema specifically, please read my two posts on what I know about eczema here and here. This is a topic near and dear to my heart and one I know and understand well.
