When we first began the GAPS diet back in 2017 I knew I would be navigating it with multiple food sensitivities and some anaphylactic food allergies. Raleigh had many food issues. We had done extensive food testing in the past, but little did I know how extensive they would be until we got into the diet.
When the gut is leaky many things will leach into the blood stream and cause the immune system to react. These reactions can look like everything from histamine issues to food sensitivities, not to mention cause a lot of confusion to the entire process. I work with a lot of clients who are also needing to navigate GAPS with food allergies and sensitivities. Sadly, this is a growing area of concern for many, but it is one I am well versed in after years of helping my son heal of these issues.
Since Raleigh had to navigate GAPS this way it forced me to get creative in the kitchen, and out of my creativity came new recipes that my kids would ask for over and over. Many of these new recipes have become staple dishes in our weekly meal plan today.
In my first year of coaching, I had clients asking if I had a meal plan to help them. I didn’t but quickly decided to put together a 30-day full GAPS meal plan with the recipes I had been creating and had perfected over our first few years on GAPS. The meals were egg and dairy free as well as free of tree nuts. The meal plan is called GAPS for You and there are two options. The first option is 30 days of breakfast, lunch and dinner. This option does offer egg and dairy options, but also alternatives for those who need to do GAPS without them. The second option is dinners only. The meal plans come with full shopping lists, pantry staples, bonus recipes and more.
After I released the meal plan I decided to release new recipe compilations with new recipes that were not in my meal plan. All of these recipes are also egg, dairy and tree nut free. I have two compilations: Party of Five and GAPS Comfort. I also released Treat Yo Self which is a compilation of Raleigh’s favorite full GAPS desserts and treats – all dairy, egg and nut free. You can find all of these here.
Before we began GAPS I spent time teaching myself basic cooking skills. I felt very inadequate in the kitchen and needed to feel more comfortable cooking from scratch. I learned through the process of GAPS not only how to cook traditionally but that I really loved cooking and recipe creating. Something about cooking is calming to me. Maybe it came from the hours I had to spend in the kitchen and choosing to embrace that journey, or maybe it just became something I loved.
After I had launched my meal plans and recipe compilations I was asked to speak at GAPS OnCon (Online Conference) in 2023. I spoke about how to navigate the GAPS diet when you are dealing with food allergies and intolerances. After presenting at the conference, I was asked to create a purchasable online course that could help others who are facing the same challenges.
Last year, 2024, I launched my DIY food allergy course. It took me about a year to compile and was even vetted and approved by Dr. Natasha herself! I am very proud of it. My hope is that it will help many people who are struggling to navigate GAPS with specific food issues be successful on their healing journey.
I absolutely love coaching. Creating these purchasable tools for people are fun, and have been wonderful, but coaching is where my heart resides. Every year my coaching business has grown a little and my prayer is that that will continue to grow so I can continue to help others find healing.
